Boomers, do you accept this rose? New reality spin-off The Golden Bachelor will feature seniors looking for love
There’s a new show in Bachelor Nation: The Golden Bachelor – which will help people in their senior years of life find love – debuts this fall.
Three years ago, ABC began a casting call for senior citizens for a new dating show and soon the Boomer version of The Bachelor is finally hitting the airwaves.
In a press release, ABC described The Golden Bachelor as a series that will ‘showcase a whole new kind of love story — one for the golden years.’
‘On this all-new unscripted series, one hopeless romantic is given a second chance at love in the search for a partner with whom to share the sunset years of life.’
‘The women arriving at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities. In the end, will our Golden man turn the page to start a new chapter with the woman of his dreams?’

The identity of the Golden man has yet to be revealed, but ABC executive Rob Mills shared a cute story from the casting process back in 2020.
‘Some of the casting interviews we got, they were just so touching,’ Mills told Variety. ‘It’s such a different way of doing because these people are just at a totally different place in their lives.’
He added: ‘There is an interesting thing about people who have hit the other end of the spectrum, who’ve lived their lives, they’ve raised their kids, some have been widowed or divorced and maybe some have never been in love.’
In early 2020, before COVID-19 shut the entertainment industry – and the world – down , ABC teased a casting call after one of the network’s Bachelor Nation shows.
The network aired a promo that read, ‘Now casting seniors looking for love.’
Mills also explained the differences the senior citizen cast will have over the 20-something casts of the franchise’s flagship shows. To apply for The Golden Bachelor applicants must be at least 65-years-old.
One of the changes is that hometown dates consist of meeting the children, rather than the parents.
‘It’s everything you love about The Bachelor, but everybody loves senior citizens because they have different love stories to talk about,’ Mills said. ‘It was really fascinating.’

And Mills also revealed that senior citizens applied to be on the new show in droves, calling interest in the spinoff ‘rabid.’
‘I have to say, we had never seen a response like we’d seen here,’ he revealed.
Additionally, the life experience of the older contestants made their applications ‘so impressive’ that the producers knew there was an audience for the new dating show.
The Golden Bachelor will air Mondays at 10pm after Dancing With the Stars. No released date has been revealed as of this writing.
