Two show business friends of Eva Longoria took to the defense of the Desperate Housewives star after she was slammed by veteran soap star Eric Braeden over what he called ‘derogatory remarks about daytime actors’ in a recent interview.
The acting couple Eric Winter and Roselyn Sánchez addressed the recent kerfuffle on their He Said, Ella Dijo podcast Monday after Braeden said Longoria insulted daytime actors in a recent interview with Chris Wallace.
Winter, 46, described Braeden as a ‘grumpy actor’ while Sánchez, 49, said he should ‘apologize because [he was] out of line’ and his remarks were ‘completely uncalled for.’
In the initial exchange on the Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, Longoria, 48, spoke about her time playing the role of Isabella Braña (alongside Braeden, 81) on The Young and the Restless from 2001-2003.
Longoria said when she initially began appearing on the long-running soap opera, she had to keep her job as a headhunter because the acting job ‘didn’t pay enough for me to live off.’

‘I continued being a headhunter and Young and the Restless,’ Longoria said. ‘And I would hide the fact I was on Young and the Restless to my clients, because they didn’t want, like, a dumb actress handing their accounts.’
‘And one time one of my clients was like, “You look like a girl I’ve seen on a soap opera.” And I go, “No, I don’t know who that is.”‘
Longoria, who had previously had made appearances on General Hospital and Beverly Hills, 90210 prior to getting a regular job on the CBS soap, described herself as ‘the opposite of a publicist’s dream’ at the time.
‘I was like I was like, “Don’t tell anybody I’m on that show” because I was still making more money on my day job,’ she said.
Braeden subsequently took to Twitter to criticize Longoria’s remarks – and denigrate her performance on the show two decades back.
‘EVA LONGORIA: you just made derogatory remarks about daytime actors!’ he tweeted. ‘You simply weren’t good enough to survive the pressures of this medium! You were very lucky to get on that ‘housewife’ show! You did one show in 8-12 days, with mediocre but salacious dialogue!’
He added, ‘Our actresses would run rings around you!! And they did then!! From Robert [De Niro] to whoever they all are, many of them started in the medium you denigrate! It shows a complete lack of class!!’
Braeden said that the ‘whole tenor’ of Longoria’s segment ‘was one of embarrassment about her stint’ on the CBS daytime staple.

He said he gets upset ‘when people who have not made it in the medium or have no idea what it is about say pejorative things about it.’
He credited himself as ‘one of few people in it who have done it all, from theater to films to loads of nighttime guest star roles,’ adding, ‘I know what I’m talking about!’
On their podcast, Winter and Sanchez addressed Braeden’s comments against their friend.
‘The bottom line is this grumpy actor Eric Braeden, older gentleman who’s a soap veteran, he’s been around forever in the soap world,’ Winter said. ‘This guy goes on a rant. I don’t even want to give him the courtesy of reading everything he says.’
Winter said that ‘nothing Eva said was inappropriate’ in the chat with Wallace, and that Braeden’s comments were tone deaf considering how much more he was earning than her on the series at the time.
‘This guy is completely out of line, in my opinion, because he doesn’t know what Eva’s financial stance was at that time in her career,’ Winter said. ‘I guarantee you he was making a ton more money than she was.’
Sanchez called Braeden’s comments ‘really awful’ and said he should say he’s sorry for them.
