She was revealed as the surprise performer inside the 2023 Met Gala held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday evening.

And following her show at the exclusive event, Lizzo was pictured joining her showbiz cohorts for a night of frivolity at the Met after party.

The American rapper, 35, switched out of her performance look in favour of a glistening silver dress teamed with a curly blonde wig.

Lizzo’s locks were styled in tumbling waves and she sported a full face of glamorous make-up, including a dramatic smokey eye and a glossy lip.

She accessorised with a pair of massive silver hoop earrings and boosted her frame with a pair of towering gold metallic platform heels.

The star-studded event always has a huge artist perform and the identity of the performer is always kept confidential until they appear on stage.

And Lizzo hit the stage to perform tracks such as Juice and About Damn Time for hundreds of celeb guests during fashion’s biggest night.

She showed off her famous curves in a shimmering silver Yitty bodysuit, teamed with a matching Fendi coat.

The Truth Hurts hitmaker rocked a pair of knee-high Piferi boots, while accessorising with Fendi bangles and Swarovski rings.

After the incredible performance, Lizzo was spotted showing off her dance moves as she started twerking with model Gigi Hadid.

Earlier in the evening, Lizzo got the surprise of a lifetime as she received an unexpected hug from Jared Leto , who was unrecognizable behind a full-body cat suit.

While it is unclear if she initially knew the Oscar winner, 51, was the man behind the dressed as the late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld’s cat, Choupette, the 35-year-old Truth Hurts hitmaker looked understandably creeped out during their exchange.

As the actor wrapped his arms around her shoulders for an embrace, she looked wary that his costume might get white fur on her stunning pearl-adorned black gown, which featured a daring thigh-high slit.

The four-time Grammy winner looked creeped out, before giving Leto a pat on the back as she made her way to the red carpet.

For the occasion, she wore a figure-hugging, floor-length dress, designed by Chanel, and her wavy tresses in a romantic updo.

Her glamorous makeup look consisted of a dramatic grey smokey eye, black winged eyeliner, nude lipstick and plenty of blush on the apples of her cheeks.

The rapper-singer-songwriter, who has attended ever Met Gala since making her debut at the event in 2021, accessorized her timeless frock with stacks of beaded bracelets, pearl drop earrings and black nail polish.

Meanwhile, Leto received plenty of attention dressed as Choupette, now 11, who has more than 181,000 Instagram followers and is said to be the most photographed cat in the world.

Upon Lagerfeld’s death, his famous feline was left to the designer’s caretaker Françoise Caçote, who stopped working to devote her time to caring for her.

Last month, it was reported that Lagerfeld’s cat had not received her £1.3 million inheritance , more the fours years after his death.

Lizzo’s appearance comes after she slated the annual fundraiser in an Instagram Live over the weekend, listing various complaints from the lack of seating to the amount of alcohol on offer.

The annual ball, hosted by Vogue’s Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour , is the biggest night in fashion, as well as a fundraiser held for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.

Lizzo performed an incredible flute solo on the red carpet when she made her debut at the event last year, wearing a black Thom Browne corset gown featuring garter belt cut-outs beneath a golden embellished coat selected by stylist Jason Rembert.

She said: ‘There’s a long f***ing line. I’m taking the glamour away from it but it’s true. You’ve gotta wait.

‘So you’re waiting and that’s the hardest part. I was sweating in a big-ass coat, my feet were hurting.

‘They don’t have no chairs, no cocktails. I was like, “B***h? Can we get some chairs or some drinks or some hors d’oeuvres?”.’

Once inside, Lizzo was left disappointed when a waiter informed her that the only choice of alcohol was red or white wine.

She recalled: ‘They were being really stingy with the liquor that night. He was like, “Red or white wine?”.

‘And I was like, “Tequila! Do you know what I’ve been through? Do you know how many hours I’ve been in this corset? How long I’ve been in these damn shoes? Tequila!”.’

Speaking about her red carpet performance, she said: ‘I had this plan to play the flute and do the whole intro [of a classical piece] but I got nervous and I only played it once because all the photographers were heckling me’.

‘They were like, “You’re putting us to sleep with the flute!” I was like, “OK?” In my mind I thought everyone was going to be transfixed.

‘So I only played it once, only the first half of it. Then I posed and got the photos.’

Despite her grievances, she went on to admit that she had a wonderful time at the event: ‘This is like prom for celebrities . . . My prom f***ing sucked. Now I feel like the Grammys and the Met Ball, they’re like my prom.

This year’s theme is Karl Lagerfeld: A Thing of Beauty, paying tribute to the legendary German designer, who died in 2019 after helming the French fashion house Chanel since 1983.

While the show may be known for its glitzy and over-the-top red carpet – with details of what occurs inside often remaining mysterious – at its heart, it is a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.

Last year, the 2022 MET Gala alone raised a grand total of $17.4 million, reported Billboard .

This year the price of admission has been raised from $30,000 to $50,000, according to Page Six .

Even if you have the funds, that doesn’t guarantee you entry into the party.

Every guest has to be invited, and a waiting list exists for the coveted golden ticket.

And status matters, according to The New York Times , meaning the hottest stars are a shoo in for an invite.
