OnlyFans, a subscription-based website known for pornographic material, is making a push for PG-rated content on their safe-for-work streaming platform, OFTV.
In recent months, OnlyFans has put in extra efforts to promote everything from cooking videos to celebrity comedy specials and reality shows on OFTV, following growing criticism and a ‘porn’ stigma around the platform.
All the content on OFTV comes from OnlyFans creators, but unlike the actual OnlyFans platform, no nudity or pornography is allowed.
OFTV has started to bring over a number of celebrity creators to do less risqué content, most notably American comedian and podcaster Whitney Cummings.
Cummings, 40, joined the site in 2022 so she could post some of her edgier jokes behind a paywall without being ‘taken out of context’ on more mainstream social media apps like Twitter.

‘I know people like to make fun of [OnlyFans] because there are naked ladies on there. I just decided, if the audience is going here, as a comedian there’s something worth checking out here,’ she told Variety last year.
She added: ‘I wouldn’t have the self-esteem to charge people to see my naked body. Instead of dirty photos, you’re gonna see dirty jokes.’
On April 1st, Cummings will release a star-studded comedy roast of comedian Bert Kreischer exclusively on the platform.
OFTV have also signed former The Only Way is Essex stars Chloe, Frankie, Demi, and Charlie Sims for their own family reality show, House of Sims.
‘There is obviously a bit of a taboo around OnlyFans,’ Frankie admitted to Good Morning Britain last year.
‘OFTV is more like the sister platform,’ Charlie explained. ‘It’s stepping away from the explicit or the nudity side. It’s all gonna be safe-for-work stuff and it’ll be suitable for anybody to watch.’

OFTV has launched a cooking show called This Is Fire featuring various OnlyFans creators competing against each other, as well as a comedy series called LMAOF featuring up and coming comedians on the platform.
OnlyFans has also been directly reaching out to lifestyle influencers in a bid to bring them over to the platform.
Food blogger Anthony O’Connell, known as UpperFeast on Instagram, told Slate that OnlyFans reached out to him as part of their ‘rebrand’.
‘I literally just chuckled, because I thought of it exclusively as a porn site. I didn’t even realize that people made non-explicit content on there,’ he said.
‘They told me they were trying to rebrand,’ the foodie added.

Despite their push for broader content, the majority of OnlyFans creators are believed to be doing explicit content.
Rapper Iggy Azalea is rumoured to be making around seven-figures selling topless photos of herself to subscribers.
Many ex reality contestants are also making a lucrative living on OnlyFans with racy posts, including Married At First Sight stars like Jessika Power and Olivia Frazer, as well as Denise Richards, Carmen Electra, and Larsa Pippen.
Power was raking in $100,000 a month at one stage on the site, while Olivia Frazer banked around $500,000 in her first six months.
At one point Cardi B had an OnlyFans page, but she’s since left the platform to join Playboy’s rival app.

Twitter was said to have been working on an OnlyFans-style subscription last year that would let users sell nude photo and videos, but internal documents obtained by The Verge show the plan was stifled because the firm ‘cannot accurately detect child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity at scale.’
The statement, according to the report, was made by Twitter’s so-called ‘Red Team’ that included 84 employees tasked with testing the product to ensure it could be done ‘safely and responsibly.’
Along with inadequate tools to detect child pornography, the Red Team determined that allowing more porn on the site would lead to scrutiny from lawmakers and many longtime users may eventually jump ship.
These warnings forced executives to put a pause on its Adult Content Monetization (ACM) until Twitter can create the proper tools to ensure a safe environment.
OnlyFans has repeatedly been forced to defend itself following claims from critics that illegal content could potentially make its way onto the platform.
An OnlyFans spokesperson told DailyMail.com last year: ‘In terms of age verification, OnlyFans is strictly an 18+ platform and uses a combination of technology and human moderation teams to verify age and identity of creators and fans.
‘For example, as part of the age and identity verification process, Creators must provide more than nine pieces of personally identifying information and documents before they can post content on OnlyFans.’
In 2020, YouTube star Gabi DeMartino was slammed for sharing a nude video of herself as a young child on her OnlyFans account and writing about it suggestively.
Gabi, who was 25 at the time, shared a 35-second video with her OnlyFans subscribers — which cost $3 to unlock — along with the message, ‘won’t put my panties on.’

Some fans who paid for the clip were horrified to discover that it was not a recent sexy upload, but a nude clip of her as a little girl of about three years old — which her words appear to have sexualized into child pornography.
Once the post was discovered, OnlyFans immediately deactivated her account for violating their terms of service.
OnlyFans CEO Amrapali Gan defended the platform in a contentious interview with the Sydney Morning Herald earlier this month.
‘First of all, we are an 18-and-over platform, and at the heart of our business is safety. That’s something very important to me, to be able to provide a safe place for our community,’ she said.
When asked if OnlyFans is a ‘porn site’, Gan replied: ‘We are an inclusive content platform.
‘So you can subscribe to creators that may be sharing adult content, or something on the spicier side. You can also subscribe to creators that might be doing yoga, or race-car drivers. We have over three million content creators on the platform.’

‘We are an 18-and-over platform, and at the heart of our business is safety. That’s something very important to me, to be able to provide a safe place for our community,’ Gan recently said
An investigation by the BBC in 2021 found that ‘underage users were selling and appearing in explicit videos’ on the platform after using fake IDs to set up accounts.
Responding to the investigation at the time, Gan insisted that OnlyFans is the ‘safest social media site in the world’.
‘We actively work with law enforcement. If anyone makes the mistake thinking they can upload illegal content, we will report them. We’re truly the safest and most inclusive social media platform,’ she said.
In 2021, OnlyFans briefly banned ‘sexually-explicit content’, claiming that the change was prompted by ‘unfair’ banks who were concerned about ‘reputational risk’.
The company reversed the decision within a week, assuring users that they would continue to support all creators on the platform, including sex workers.
OnlyFans is now facing competition from Playboy’s new creator platform, which promises to be an ‘elevated’ version of the X-rated subscription site.
Playboy will allow nudity, which its creators view as a form of art and free expression, but explicit content and pornography will not be allowed.
The company is hoping to attract creators who are uncomfortable with the more sexually-explicit content on OnlyFans.
Ben Kohn, the company’s CEO said he hopes the interjection of Playboy’s creators will disrupt the current creator ecosystem in much the same way that ‘Playboy magazine shook up the publishing industry nearly 70 years ago.’

OnlyFans star Gina Stewart, known online as ‘the world’s hottest grandma’, has already thrown her support behind Playboy’s new platform.
‘The Playboy platform has launched, yes, and it’s going to give OnlyFans a run for its money,’ she told the Daily Star.
‘It will stay within the Playboy guidelines, nudity but not pornography,’ she added.
‘I think this appeals to a more conservative demographic audience and is a lot more classy and glamorous.’
Explaining her decision, she told The Jason Lee Show that she wanted to ‘change’ her image.
‘All that stuff is a dead end and I know that I’m way — I’m worth way more than that. I feel like I have bigger fish to fry,’ she said.
‘Shout out to the people that do still have their OnlyFans and stuff like that. Get your money, don’t let the money make you.’
