Relief for Hugh Jackman amid skin cancer scare: Actor updates fans on results of his two biopsies

Hugh Jackman has shared a positive update amid his recent skin cancer scare.

The Australian actor, 54, revealed on Tuesday that he’d undergone two biopsies after his doctor noticed ‘little things’ that could potentially be Basal Cell Carcinoma – the most common form of skin cancer.

On Thursday, the Wolverine star was relieved to announce that the biopsies had returned with a negative result.

‘My biopsies came back,’ he shared to his Instagram Story.

‘Negative!!! Thank you ALL for the love. I feel it!’

The Golden Globe winner also thanked fans and media for spreading awareness.

He also reminded fans to be sun safe and ‘wear sunscreen with a high SPF’ regardless of the season.

In 2017, the Wolverine star had six skin cancers removed from his face within a two-year period. In 2021, he had an inconclusive result following a biopsy on his face, revealing the worst it could be was BCC.

Wearing a bandage over his nose on Tuesday, Hugh shared the news in a video on social media, and urged his fans to practise sun safety. 

‘Hey guys. So, I wanted you to hear it from me just in case someone sees me on the street or whatever,’ he began. 

‘I’ve just had two biopsies done. I just went to my doctor, Dr. Airan, who’s awesome.

‘I’ll find out in two or three days and as soon as I know, I’ll let you know.

‘Just to remind you, Basal Cell in the world of skin cancers is the least dangerous of them all.’

Hugh admitted the sun spots he has been getting cut from his skin now are from his time spent outdoors 25 years ago. 

He went on to urge fans, especially ahead of summer for those in the northern hemisphere, to be safe when out in the sun.

‘Please wear sunscreen. It is just not worth it,’ he said.

‘No matter how much you want to tan, trust me, trust me, trust me.’

The Greatest Showman star added: ‘Put some sunscreen on. You’ll still have an incredible time out there, alright? Please be safe.’

In his caption, Hugh explained how he’d been open in the past about his skin cancer scares, adding that it doesn’t bother him as long as it reminds people to wear sunscreen.

‘I know you’ve heard me talk about my basal cell carcinomas before. I’m going to keep talking about them, if need be,’ he wrote.

‘And if it reminds even one person to put on sunscreen with a high SPF, then I’m happy.

He told ABC News in 2015 that his childhood ‘was all outdoors’ and that protective ointments such as sunscreen were not a priority in his family.

‘I don’t think my dad or mum ever bought it or made us put it on,’ he said. 

‘The thing I remember most, the rule about being outdoors was you weren’t allowed to swim within half an hour of eating… and it’s not true.’

Jackman told ABC News in 2015 that his childhood ‘was all outdoors’ and that protective ointments such as sunscreen were not a priority in his family
