Andrew Garfield is the latest star to be accused of throwing an on-set tantrum, with the actor dogged by claims that he launched into a furious rant at onlookers who were watching him film his new movie. 

The actor, 39, who is currently shooting a rom-com with actress Florence Pugh called We Live In Time in south-west London, apparently had a cross word or two with onlookers who were ‘distracting’ his film shoot.

After local residents came to the window to watch the action, Andrew apparently ‘motioned at them to open the window’ before yelling at them.

Hollywood stars have long been accused of throwing tantrums and epic meltdowns when things don’t go their way – from the likes of Christian Bale losing it at the crew on Terminator Salvation to Justin Bieber screaming at camera operators for not capturing his dance moves.

Mariah Carey’s kicked off 2017 with a bang when she stormed off the stage in New York’s Times Square during the New Year’s Eve telecast. 

The singer appeared flustered and on the verge of tears when ABC accidentally played the wrong lip-synced track during her performance, proving she wasn’t singing live and leaving her unable to carry on. 

She stormed around the stage, repeatedly asking for the monitors to be turned on during her performance, before trying to rescue her set by dancing briefly.

However, she didn’t last long, and then said into her microphone: ‘I’m trying to be a good sport here.’

Mariah remained on stage as one more song played, before walking off in a huff, sending Twitter into meltdown with her antics.

Christian Bale’s Terminator meltdown 

Christian Bale is still trying to shake the reputation of being ‘difficult’ after an explosive on-set tantrum filming Terminator: Salvation.

During production on the Terminator sequel in 2008, the Oscar-winning actor lashed out at the film’s director of photography, Shane Hurlbut, in an expletive rant and threatened to exit the film.

Audio footage of the meltdown was leaked the following year, with Christian heard threatening Shane: ‘I’m gonna f***ing kick your f***ing ass. Do you want me to go and trash your lights. Do you want me to go and trash them? Then why are you trashing my scene?’ 

The actor then issued a public apology for his outburst, calling it ‘inexcusable’ and admitting ‘I acted like a punk’.

Kim Kardashian loses her earrings 

Kim Kardashian became an instant meme in 2011 after she lost one of her prized $75,000 diamond earrings in the waters of Bora Bora. 

While being filmed for Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim screamed about her lost treasure, prompting sister Kourtney to drop one of the most iconic lines from the show: ‘Kim, there’s people that are dying.’ 

In a 2017 interview, Kylie Jenner revealed how she ended up saving the day for her sister.

‘I went under there and it was saltwater so it kind of hurt to open my eyes, but I just opened my eyes and looked around and I saw something shining,’ she recalled. 

‘Swam all the way down there — it was, like, 10 feet — picked it up, and it was the shining diamond! I literally found it in two minutes.’

Megan McKenna’s ‘hangry’ meltdown 

Megan McKenna went viral in 2016 when she launched into a foul-mouthed rant on Celebrity Big Brother – which she later blamed on being ‘hangry.’ 

The Ex on the Beach star was called into the Diary Room after clashing with fellow contestants John Partridge and Tiffany Pollard and didn’t hold back as she screamed obscenities and attacked the chair. 

During her hissy fit, she lamented being asked to eat ‘crackers and figs’ while on rationing, screeching: ‘I can’t eat that s**t, what the f**k!’

Megan was issued with a formal warning over her hysterical behaviour and while viewers were initially shocked by the outburst, they later saw the funny side of Megan’s extreme rage and poked fun at her via viral internet jokes.

Many likened Megan’s explosive outburst to demonic horror movie characters from Carrie (1976) and The Exorcist (1974).

Tom Cruise finds keeping his cool Mission Impossible 

Tom Cruise made headlines in 2020 when audio of him lashing out at Mission: Impossible 7 crew members over breached COVID-19 guidelines went viral.

He seemed to have good intentions when he laid into at least two crew members on Mission: Impossible – Lybra – who were reportedly standing too close and not adhering to social distancing guidelines.

As the first major box office production to start shooting amid the pandemic, Tom’s tirade came from a place of fear-induced stress, though many took issue with the ballistic delivery on his part.

The profanity-filled rant instilled fear on set, with a source later saying that the crew had been ‘walking on eggshells,’ ever since Tom unloaded on them.

George Clooney defended his pal’s actions as he said, people ‘have to be responsible,’ both on and off set, while former Scientologist Leah Remini – who has criticized his continued involvement in the church – called it a ‘publicity stunt.’

Cristiano Ronaldo breaks a phone 

Cristiano Ronaldo was hit with a £50,000 fine and a two-match ban in 2022 after he smashed a fan’s phone following Man United’s defeat against Everton. 

As he headed back to the dressing room after his loss, Cristiano slapped the hand of Jacob Harding – a 14-year-old boy with autism – as he stormed down the tunnel, damaging the boy’s phone.

After a five-month investigation FA handed the footballer a hefty fine as well as a suspension as punishment for improper and violent conduct.

After his actions at Goodison Park, Cristiano posted an apology, stating: ‘It’s never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments such as the one we are facing.’

He added that he should’ve shown an ‘example’ to young fans, concluding: ‘I would like to apologise for my outburst and, if possible, I would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship.’

Ariana Grande licks doughnuts 

In a bizarre move that she never fully explained, Ariana Grande unleashed her rage on a random bakery in 2015 when she entered the eatery and began licking the doughnuts on display.  

After entering Wolfee Donut shop in Lake Elsinore with her then-boyfriend Ricky Alvarez she began contaminating the baked goods and when approached by a member of staff, ranted: ‘What the f**k is that? I hate Americans. I hate America.’

While she never explained what prompted the outburst, she later released an apology video in which she said she was ‘disgusted’ with herself. 

She explained: ‘I’m going to come forward and own up to what I did and take responsibility and say I’m sorry because I reacted in a way that I feel like wasn’t necessary to say the least but also just wasn’t me at all.’

When Justin Bieber performed on The Today Show in 2015 he was no doubt expecting to cause a stir with his new bleach blond hair. 

Unfortunately for the singer it was an unexpected moment that ended up going viral after he was filmed kicking off at the cameraman. 

After performing a medley of hits, Justin was concerned that his dance moves hadn’t been captured and unaware that the camera was still rolling he walked over to give the operator a piece of his mind. 

He was filmed fuming: ‘The camera’s there the whole time, I might as well not even dance. What do I even do this for if they are just going to…’ before the feed was quickly cut to black and the programme went to advertisements.

Lil Wayne throws his microphone 

Lil Wayne lost his cool in spectacular fashion when the audience didn’t respond to his performance in 2016.

The rapper was performing at the Philipp Plein show during Milan Fashion Week and urged the audience to raise their hands and participate, but only a handful actually did.

Lil Wayne was seen rapping to music beside a conductor in white tie and tuxedo as he told the crowd: ‘Put your hands up’, adding with emphasis: ‘Put your **** hands up.’

Acting almost incredulous, the rapper shouted into his mic: ‘Is this what you want me to do? You serious?’ before throwing his microphone away and walking off the stage.

The rapper’s representative later stated that he didn’t walk offstage due to the crowd, but because he was frustrated with technical difficulties he was experiencing, mainly his mic not working as planned.

Kanye West doesn’t let Taylor Swift ‘finish’ 

Kanye West’s long-standing feud with Taylor Swift all began in 2009 when he threw a tantrum on stage as she accepted Best Music Video at the MTV VMAs. 

The rapper famously interrupted Taylor – who was just 19 at the time – to announce that Beyonce should have been won instead.  

He said at the time: ‘Yo Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!’

Kanye later claimed he was compelled to pull the stunt because of a ‘higher power’, saying: ‘If God ain’t want me to run on stage and say Beyoncé had the best video, he wouldn’t have sat me in the front row. I would’ve been sitting in the back.’

Will Smith slaps Chris Rock

While all celebrities endure a bit of teasing at awards shows, Will Smith lost his cool in spectacular fashion when Oscars host Chris Rock mocked his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith at the 2022 ceremony. 

Chris had poked fun at Jada, referring to her as GI Jane due to her buzzcut, seemingly not knowing she suffered from alopecia. 

In perhaps the most shocking moment in Oscars history Will then stormed the stage and slapped Chris, warning him: ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth’.

While Will was allowed to stay at the ceremony, and later in the evening picked up a Best Actor Oscar for King Richard, he was subsequently banned from attending any Academy events for 10 years.

Vanessa Feltz throws a tantrum on CBB 

The first ever series of Celebrity Big Brother UK aired in 2001, four years after the civilian show arrived on screens, and was in aid of Comic Relief.

Despite starring just six celebrities and a time length of eight days, there was no shortage of drama, including the iconic Vanessa Feltz meltdown on day three. 

After being nominated for eviction, the TV presenter, dressed in leopard print and wearing shades, started scrawling obscenities on the kitchen table in chalk, ignoring Big Brother’s demands to stop. 

Reflecting on her meltdown 20 years later, Vanessa confessed: ‘I didn’t really think about it at all. It just didn’t seem like much of a big deal at the time. How wrong I was!’

Chris Brown infuriated one eager fan during a concert in Berlin after grabbing her phone and hurling it into the crowd while she repeatedly tried to film him.

The Give Me Everything hitmaker performed a sexy lapdance for the fan, who was on the chair in the middle of the stage surrounded by his backing dancers.

But more preoccupied with getting her moment in the spotlight, the fan once again grabbed her phone to film herself.

Having had enough, Chris snatched the phone away and threw it into the crowd, to the fan’s clear shock.

The stage then plunged into darkness following the end of the performance.

Madonna threatens to cancel show 

Despite smoking in outdoor venues being legal in Chile, Madonna threw a strop when she caught a whiff of smoke at a gig in the South American country in 2012. 

While performing a sound check, Madonna was seen shouting at the crowds: ‘There are people smoking right now. No smoking! If you’re going to smoke cigarettes, I’m not doing a show.’

Unfortunately, Madonna’s rant – which she made in English to the Spanish speaking audience – did not have the desired effect and she became even more irate.

The Like A Prayer singer continued: ‘You don’t care about me? I don’t care about you. All right? Are we going to play that game? I’m not kidding. I can’t sing if you smoke. Entiendes? You’re looking right at me and smoking cigarettes, like I’m a stupid f**king idiot.’

Gemma Collins’ 2016 stint on Celebrity Big Brother saw her break down on several occasions but the most infamous meltdown came when she screamed at Darren Day. 

The reality star had refused to take part in several tasks on the show, to the detriment of her fellow housemates.  

When Darren asked why she wouldn’t be entering the task room, Gemma screamed: ‘I don’t need the money, I’ve got money… I’m claustrophobic, Darren!’
