Barbie fans have been left furious by the choice of song used in the movie’s new trailer with one branding it a ‘travesty’.

The upcoming live action film, directed by Greta Gerwig, sees the first dazzling glimpse of ‘Barbieland’ with Margot Robbie, 32, and Ryan Gosling, 42, showing off their comedic flair as the iconic dolls.

The much anticipated trailer saw Barbie and Ken set out on an adventure to the ‘real world’ soundtracked to the Beach Boys’ 1964 song Fun Fun Fun.

However, fans quickly took to social media disappointed that Aqua’s iconic – and perfectly apt – hit Barbie Girl failed to be featured.

With one writing: ‘The fact that this trailer isn’t set to Barbie Girl is a travesty’.

A second said: ‘I feel like there’s a huge missed opportunity in this Barbie trailer. Why isn’t the theme song ‘Barbie Girl’ by Aqua?’.

With a third agreeing: ‘The most disappointing thing to me about the Barbie movie is how in the trailer they went ‘Hi Barbie’ ‘Hi Ken’ and then Barbie Girl by Aqua did NOT start playing’.

While a fourth movie fan wrote: ‘As great as that Barbie trailer was, you know a slow version of Aqua’s Barbie Girl would’ve been the icing on the plastic cake.

Some even vowed to fix the apparent error and edited the trailer to include the 1997 Aqua hit.

Barbie Girl was released in April 1997 and topped the charts worldwide and continues to remain one of the best-selling singles of all time

The Danish-Norwegian band, formed in 1989, was comprised of singers Lene Nystrøm, René Dif, as well as Søren Rasted and guitarist Claus Norreen.

They went on to produce three studio albums, Aquarium in 1997, Aquarius in 2000 and Megalomania in 2011.

In 2019 they announced a Nineties nostalgia tour in which they will hit the stage in five cities across Canada alongside fellow Eurodance legends Vengaboys.

Fans also blasted Ryan Gosling over his resemblance to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in the film’s official trailer.

They quickly took to social media to lambast the 42-year-old La La Land actor for his likeness to DeGeneres, 65, with her signature platinum crop and sports luxe dress sense.

Others blasted the decision to cast the actor in a typically youthful role and quipped: ‘Ken needs Botox.’

One fan wrote: ‘Y’all gonna jump me if I say Ryan Gosling kinda look like Ellen in that Barbie trailer ? cause if so I DIDNT SAY THAT!’ while another wrote: ‘Is that Ellen?’

Another branded Gosling’s appearance as an ‘aging generous Palm Springs daddy’ while another wrote: ‘Ryan Gosling looks fake old in the Barbie trailer.’

One fan penned: is it j me or does Ryan Gosling look so more older in the barbie movie ka trailer???? + the blonde is doing him dirty.’

Also in the trailer actress Margot in her role as the doll is seen stepping out of a pair of pink sparkly heels.

As the blonde removes her feet from the shoes, viewers then see her standing in the Barbie position that makes her appear as if she is wearing an invisible pair of heels – her foot arched and her toes pointed.

Fans have flocked to social media to react to the actress’s feet, with one fan writing: ‘Margot Robbie’s feet really about to make me buy a ticket to Barbie.’

‘Can we talk about how pretty Margot Robbie’s feet are?’ a third commented.

‘The first shot of the Barbie The Movie trailer is a shot of Margot Robbie’s feet. They know there’s a massive group of guys that will pay to see this in IMAX,’ one said.

‘As a Margot Robbie fan and foot fetishist, this might as well be Christmas,’ one fan wrote.

‘Big day for fans of Margot Robbie who also have a foot fetish,’ another joked.

One person commented: ‘I don’t have a foot fetish but Margot Robbie may make me reconsider.’

Barbie is set for release on July 21
