AFL star Barry Hall has revealed his surprising new career move – officially launching a new alcohol brand called Nectar Vodka.

The sporting legend, 46, created the drop with his wife and former Hi-5 star Lauren Brant, 34, and brewer Michael McGovern. 

The trio celebrated the product release last month after months of hard work. 

Products include 700ml vodka bottles, which retail at $69, as well as packs of vodka soda, which start at $14. 

The brand is marketed as a ‘cleaner vodka aligned with the couple’s 80/20 diet mantra’ and is distilled in Burleigh Heads. 

The vodka is said to have ‘natural ingredients and is infused with real fruit’.

Barry now calls himself an ‘entrepreneur’ in his Instagram bio. 

Lauren told fans last month launching their new brand was an ’emotional’ experience. 

‘All the emotions that come with launching a new brand. There are a lot. Number one – pure bloody excitement and pride,’ she wrote on Instagram.

‘It’s been an eye opener to us in not only our relationship, but our relationships with others too. I feel new ventures not only make you vulnerable, but those around you are sometimes affected too (and in challenging ways at times).’

She added: ‘It feels amazing to us to be doing something totally new, that we are passionate about. It’s all apart of growth.’ 

Barry retired from AFL back in 2011 and has gone on to have a commentating career and even turned to boxing last year.

He has also appeared on Channel Seven reality competition SAS Australia last year. 

In December 2020, the former footy bad boy became a qualified ‘mind mentor’ that sought to help men of all ages overcome depression.

The AFL premiership-winning captain for the Sydney Swans is a certified life coach, and previously said he believes he can help other men deal with anxiety and stress as well as create avenues for those in dark places to turn their lives around.

In June 2018, Barry was sacked by Triple M after making vulgar on-air comments about a former player’s wife during a radio broadcast.

The former footy star was commentating during the station’s pre-game show with St Kilda legend Leigh Montagna, when he made an offensive comment regarding Montagna’s wife Erinn, who was due to give birth at the time.

The panel was discussing the fact she had undergone a ‘sweep’, a technique used by medical professionals to try to induce labour.

Hall ‘joked’ that the male doctor behaved in a sexually inappropriate way, which sparked laughter from the other panelists.

Hall was sacked before the game between the Western Bulldogs and Geelong Cats at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium. 

Social media went into meltdown following Hall’s vile on-air comments, with many male and female fans expressing their disgust.

‘Okay, so I never want to hear or see Barry Hall on radio, television, or anything, ever again. Ever,’ one user wrote.

Another added: ‘Been a listener for 15 years. That comment by Barry Hall was the most outrageously offensive thing I’ve heard in a pre-game in a long time. Shameful. Embarrassing. Wrong.’
