Batman found its director? The Flash’s Andy Muschietti teases involvement in The Brave And The Bold

Many have wondered who is going to helm Batman: The Brave And The Bold and Andy Muschietti has made a compelling case after The Flash recently received widespread praise for the first screening at Cinemacon.

The 49-year-old director appeared at a fan screening for The Flash in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on Sunday and raised many eyebrows as he teased the possibility of directing the next film centered around the Caped Crusader.

On the red carpet he stopped for an interview with Senior global editor at Narcity Canada Josh K. Elliott who asked him what spin he would put on a Batman film.

Muschietti played coy as he answered: ‘Oh, I don’t think I can talk to that… yet.’

The  Argentine filmmaker already has experiencing directing two versions of Batman as Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton’s incarnations are both featured in The Flash.

Earlier this year co-CEO of the DC Cinematic Universe James Gunn revealed the movie Batman: The Brave And The Bold as part of their new 8-to-10 year plan.

At the time he introduced the film as ‘the story of Batman and his actual son, Damien Wayne,’ and it would also be the beginning of the Bat-family in the DCU.

This comes a month after debuting a new trailer for The Flash at CinemaCo and Warner Bros. treated attendees with the first screening of the movie, which was incredibly well-received.

The film had been called by new DC Studios head James Gunn and Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav as one of the greatest superhero movies ever… a sentiment that many critics in attendance seemed to echo.

While it’s unclear when the first full reviews will be published ahead of the June 16 theatrical release date, the early reactions are exceedingly positive.

The strong reactions also comes amid the controversial legal troubles of Ezra Miller, who was arrested multiple times in Hawaii, accused of harassment and burglary charges in Vermont, to name just a few, leading the star to go into treatment.

Many fans were angered that Warner Bros. continued to stand by the actor despite his despicable behavior, though it remains unclear if the actor will participate in the press tour leading up to the summer release.

Fandango’s Erik Davis tweeted, ‘DC’s #TheFlash is TREMENDOUS! Forget DC, it is without a doubt among the best superhero films ever made. An all-timer. Inventive storytelling, FANTASTIC action sequences, great cast. SO MANY nerdy details. I’m in tears at the end. Everything you want from a superhero film & more.’

He added in another tweet, ‘I’m honestly floored it’s this good. As a monster BACK TO THE FUTURE fan, it has BTTF vibes all day. Michael Keaton is amazing, as expected, and this is the best Ezra Miller has been as Flash. Affleck gets some of his best Batman moments, too, and Sasha Calle rocks! #TheFlash.’

We Live Entertainment’s Scott Menzel added, ‘The Flash is hands down one of the best superhero films of all time. No joke, The Flash is the ultimate movie going experience as it has a little bit of everything!’

He continued the film has, ‘action, emotion, heart, humor and plenty of nostalgia,’ adding, ‘Ezra Miller is phenomenal as dual Barry Allens. Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle are very good also.

‘This is a film that audiences will be watching over and over again. Oh, and avoid all the spoilers you can for this movie because there some really incredible surprises that will truly blow you away. I cannot wait to see this again! #TheFlash’ he concluded.

He added in another tweet that Ezra Miller is, ‘the heart and soul of the film’ and his performance, ‘carries the entire weight of the story.

Miller plays two different versions of Barry Allen – each from a different universe – adding the, ‘dual performance really showcases Ezra’s incredible talent as a performer.’

Vanity Fair’s Jordan Hoffman added The Flash was, ‘far more madcap than I expected,’ adding it, ‘really nailed what reading a 5-issue crossover comic book is like.’

‘Tons of Ezra Miller being zany and time paradox stuff. Nerds will lose their minds at the ending. And beginning and middle. Comics!’ he added.

Valnet’s Rob Keyes added, ‘Just watched #TheFlash at CinemaCon. It has some stuff in it you will not believe and it showcases much more of Barry Allen’s powers. It is indeed one of DC’s best and fits nicely as a bridge story between the old and new DCEU franchises. It’s also the funniest DC movie.’

Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier added, ‘Yup. #TheFlash is as good as rumored. It’s Back to the Future meets Spider-Man: No Way Home with all the humor & heart of the former and action and surprises of the latter. If anything, it might be a tad too ambitious but it’s also just incredibly satisfying, heartwarming & fun.’

Collider’s Steve Weintraub acknowledged Miller’s controversial past, stating, ‘#TheFlash is fantastic. I know Ezra Miller has made a lot of mistakes but they are soooooo good in this movie. Loved Keaton, the action, humor and emotion. Andy Muschietti has crafted something special. Thumbs way up,’ adding that, ‘WB didn’t show the after the credits scenes.’

Gamespot’s Chris Hayner added, ‘I don’t know what to say other than #TheFlash delivered more than I could have hoped. The acting is beyond great. Keaton delivers everything you want. Supergirl is my new favorite superhero? I’m genuinely shocked this movie meets and surpasses the hype. I never expected that.’

Matt Ramos added, ‘This is truly one of the best superhero movies ever. believe the hype. oh my god. #TheFlash.’

Brandon Davis said, ‘Damn, #TheFlash is good! It’s super inventive both visually and in concept. The dynamic of two Barry Allen’s is crazy well done. Emotions hit me intensely hard, solid surprises, and it got me wanting to watch again and really eager to see how they follow it. Well done.’

Scott Mantz said, ‘THE FLASH is awesome! One of the very best DC movies, a perfect blend of action, heart & humor! So many WOW & chill-inducing moments that longtime DC fans will love! EZRA MILLER is superb (twice, actually!) & MICHAEL KEATON’s still got it! #TheFLASH #BATMAN #CinemaCon.’

Miller, 30, was arrested several times earlier this year for assault and burglary, faced accusations of grooming children, and reportedly provided housing for a mother and three young children at an unlicensed cannabis farm in Vermont despite opposition from their father.

The actor issued a statement in August apologizing for his behavior while revealing that he was seeking treatment for ‘complex mental health issues.’

His reps told Variety in a statement: ‘Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment.’

The statement continued: ‘I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.’

Miller was arrested and charged earlier in August with felony burglary after police claim the actor broke into an area home and stole bottles of liquor in May.

The future of The Flash franchise was uncertain after the actor was arrested for the third time this year in August, following earlier arrests in April in Hawaii.

Miller has been accused of disturbing and violent behavior going back to at least 2020.

That year, a video circulated that allegedly showed the actor choking a woman while at a bar in Reykjavik, Iceland.

A source told Variety the incident took place after ‘pushy fans’ approached Miller and the actor lost their temper.
