Baz Luhrmann has a warm reunion in Brisbane with actor David Wenham who appeared in the director’s blockbuster Elvis

He’s the Australian film director known for his daring style on the red carpet.

But Baz Luhrmann ditched the smart threads on Thursday for an ultra-casual look when he caught up with Aussie star David Wenham at a trendy Brisbane café.

Baz, 60, looked cheerful as he shared a joke with Wenham, 57, who featured in the director’s latest blockbuster, Elvis.

Sporting a light grey stubble, Baz rocked a black V-neck T-shirt, which he matched with a pair of grey oversized tracksuit pants.

The Strictly Ballroom director completed his look with a set of white running shoes.

Leaving his short grey hair product free, Baz accessorised with a pair of tinted sun-glasses, a sea-shell wrist band an a black designer bag, which he slung over one shoulder.

Meanwhile, David looked trim in a grey T-shirt, a pair of slim-line blue jeans and matching baseball cap and running shoes.

The Sydney-born Lord of the Rings star looked engrossed in conversation with Baz, before the filmmaking parted warmly with a hug goodbye.

In Baz’s epic Elvis biography, David plays country legend Hank Snow.

It comes after the filmmaker announced he was prepared to release a four-hour version of his box-office hit, Elvis.

However, Baz said last October it will be some time before fans get to see the extended Elvis flick because the millionaire filmmaker was ‘too tired’ to complete the work necessary.

He said last year that his social media has been inundated with demands to see the extended version of the film, which has grossed US$284million worldwide (AU$419.6m).

Baz explained to Screen Rant that the four-hour version of Elvis would require between four to six months of intensely technical work to complete.

Filmed in Queensland, the critically acclaimed Elvis biopic stars Austin Butler as Elvis, Olivia de Jong as he wife Priscilla and Tom Hanks as the King’s notorious manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

The movie follows Elvis from his childhood poverty through to his emergence as a global superstar before his untimely death at the age of just 42 in 1977.
