‘I knew about the sprained one, because it hurt first. Unfortunately I just kept going to PT because I didn’t realize how badly I was injured and that was sort of created a lot of arthritis in the hip.
‘So also with the other one, compensating for the bad one, I ended up having to get them both done.
‘And it’s not a matter of saying, ”oh, how am I going to deal with it?” I am from Texas! – you just deal with it.
‘There are no options And I was in so much pain by then. I am so grateful that the technology is around now.
‘I went in at 8am, they did it at 11. I got up and they had me walking at four. I went home at 7. You just deal with it.
‘And then I started physical therapy and now I walk a lot and that’s very good therapy.
‘The older you get, the more you realize how easy it is for one bad thing to, to one fall to wreck your life.’
The glamorous star says she is loving resuming her normal active lifestyle and wearing high heels again.

Fairchild also overcame another health drama as her home accumulated black mold within its walls – causing her to become sick and gain weight.
She said: ‘I had mold in my house which made me very sick and so I’m on infusions and vitamin C. But I got very sick and I blew up like a balloon.
‘I kept going to the doctors trying to figure out why am I gaining weight when I don’t eat lots?
‘I kept going to hormone doctors thinking it was menopause or something. So it’s been a long haul, but I’m doing different therapies like that right now.
‘So you just keep finding new things, you keep researching things.
‘I am a science nerd, so I just keep researching things and I’m looking for ways to stay healthy. The older you get the more you realize how easy it is for one bad thing to wreck your life. A lot of it is trying to stay educated on what not to do and healthy.’
She believes keeping clear of temptation served her well during her younger years in showbusiness.
She said: ‘You see a lot of bad aging in Hollywood and I have always tried to live real clean. So that helps. I did no drinking, smoking and no drugs. When you are younger you just do it because you think it is a good idea. But when you’re older you see other people and say I am glad I didn’t do that. A lot of that hard partying ages you a lot.
‘I am just so boring. It is all about a good diet too.
I grew up in Texas, so if I kept eating the way I did with everything deep fat fried it would be a whole other story. Part of it is just educating yourself on nutrition and different therapies.’
Fairchild is already back to work appearing in a new TV series, I’m a Virgo with Walton Goggins and is planning a stage show in the fall.
