The Four Seasons Hotel San Domenico Palace, where a suite can cost upwards of £7,000 a night, is in the Sicilian hilltop town of Taormina beside the Ionian Sea and below an active volcano called Mount Etna.

Located near vineyards, an ancient Greek theatre, medieval villages, it makes a beautiful setting for the fictional White Lotus hotel and spa.

High profile guests visited through the early 1900s, including King Edward VII the second, Baron Rothschild, Oscar Wilde and DH Lawrence.

The hotel’s fortunes took a turn in 1943, when it was bombed by the Allies while being used as a headquarters by the German army.

It was several years until the hotel was reopened, in 1926, after the convent, which was almost totally destroyed during the war.

Upon its reopening, it hosted many lavish parties. By the 1950s, many of the most famous stage and screen visited the location, including Greta Garbo, Ingrid Bergman, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Sophia Loren.

It comes after Gemma revealed she wrecked a £130,000 Lamborghini while filming in Marbella as she shared a behind-the-scenes snap last week.

She reminisced about her time on the Marbella Special in 2014, which followed the Essex gang on their annual holiday.

But in scenes that never aired, Gemma admitted she caused £12,000 worth of damage to the luxury motor after taking it for a spin.

The Lamborghini, that was hired by the production team, was in perfect condition in the photos, but the TV personality confessed it didn’t stay that way.

She explained: ‘A few minutes after this scene I did 12k damage to the car @garylukemc I think you was saying be careful with the car the scenes you don’t see he he.’

In the photo, Gemma wore a white and yellow printed kaftan with a pair of high heels and shielded her eyes with some oversized sunglasses.

The Only Way Is Essex cast hit Marbella in June 2014 with Gemma joined by the likes of James Argent, Ferne McCann and Lydia Bright.

Shortly before the show aired, it was reported that the reality TV star ended up scratching the Lamborghini on a wall while whizzing around the town.

Gemma claims that she didn’t notice how close she was driving to the wall because the ‘engine was so loud.’

A source told The Sun at the time: ‘Gemma was driving the car really confidently going round tight corners but ended up badly scratching it without even realising.

‘She claimed the engine was so noisy that she couldn’t hear anything. The car hire company was not happy and ended up docking the deposit.’

The business owner starred on the hit reality series from 2011 until 2019, before beginning her own show, Gemma Collins: Diva.

The admission comes after he had viewers in stitches on Sunday, as she competed on The Great Celebrity Bake Off 2023.

The reality star appeared on the show for Stand Up 2 Cancer alongside Jessica Hynes, Tim Key, AJ Odudu.

Gemma began by making a pink Victoria sponge with raspberries and rose icing for her Signature Bake, she soon declared: ‘I’m a genius, I’m a cooking genius’.

The former TOWIE star also admitted to a crush on judge Paul Hollywood, calling him ‘gorgeous’ and confessed: ‘He’s the only reason I did the show.’

In judging her first cake, Paul called it ‘fascinating’ and decided it was too ‘dry’, but Gemma took the hit positively saying: ‘He liked my cake!’
