Hollyoaks’ Juliet Nightingale (Niamh Blackshaw) received the heart-breaking news her Hodgkin’s Lymphoma was terminal during Monday’s episode.

With girlfriend Peri (Ruby O’Donnell) at her side, doctors told her her cancer had spread and, due to how weak her body is, there are no further treatment options.

Upon hearing the news, Juliet thought back to happier times as she remembered her recent trip to Brighton and, in moving scenes, she asks to go home.

And in line with the heartbreaking episode, Hollyoaks will launch a new social media campaign, titled Ode To My Juliet, and fronted by actress Niamh Blackshaw.

Juliet had been receiving treatment for cancer since her diagnosis in late 2022. After reconnecting with her ex-partner Peri Lomax, the loved-up pair quickly moved in together, making every moment count.

In upcoming scenes , her family and friends will go through their own journeys as they try to process the news, and support Juliet during her last days.

The soap have worked with the charity Teenage Cancer Trust to accurately portray Juliet’s cancer storyline.

The campaign invites viewers to share their own cancer stories, memories, and bereavement journeys.

A video detailing the campaign following the episode with Niamh Blackshaw saying: ‘Juliet’s Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is now terminal. Over the next few weeks, you’ll see Juliet tell loved ones, live out her last days, and then she is going to die.’

‘In a way to commemorate Juliet as a character, and to do something positive, we want to come together and share stories of loved ones who may have been touched by cancer.’

Using the hashtag #OdeToMyJuliet, the soap invites members of the public to share their stories on TikTok, where they can greenscreen, duet and stitch the videos. Or they can share a picture, video, or even a poem on Instagram.

It comes after Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson teased whether Ste Hay and Brendan Brady could get back together after his former onscreen love interest made a recent return to set.

‘Stendan’ fans went wild after village bad boy Emmett J Scanlan made a surprise appearance on set in March amid filming for Ste and James Nightingale’s wedding.

The Irish actor, 44, who lives in Chester, happened to be passing by when he was spotted by a make-up artist and headed to the set to say hello to his former co-star.

The picture left Hollyoaks fans swooning at the time with many hoping that the former couple could reunite 10 years after they were ripped apart following Brendan’s prison stint.

And with the hype still surrounding the fan favourite couple, especially in the run-up to Ste’s upcoming nuptials with lawyer James (Gregory Finnegan), Kieron has dished on whether there is a future for Stendan.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, he said: ‘It was amazing to see [Emmett], and obviously I’d love for a Stendan reunion to happen, but I don’t think that will be any time soon, but who knows what the future hold?

Though he didn’t confirm a reunion, Kieron, 37, didn’t exactly rule it out either, meaning there is still hope for stalwart Stendan supporters.

Meanwhile Kieron opened up on what it was like to have Emmett briefly back on set, over a decade since the dodgy character departed.

He said: ‘Emmett actually lives in Chester and was randomly walking past. One of our makeup artists spotted him and was like, ‘Your little Ste’s getting married over there’ so he came to say hello.

‘There’s a scene actually where Ste’s tied to a lamppost and a passerby takes pictures of him because he finds it funny, and we were thinking wouldn’t it be amazing if we actually got Emmett to play the passerby.

‘It would work because he looks so different at the minute – he’s in another show and he’s got to shave his beard, so he looks a bit unrecognisable, really young actually.’

He continued: ‘It was so weird on the day because there were fans watching and crew members so when we were stood together, I think people were expecting something to happen but we just had a little catch up.’

Hollyoaks airs Mondays to Fridays at 6:30pm on Channel 4, and first look episodes at 7pm on E4
