Jimmy Kimmel hosting Las Vegas comedy benefit to support godson Joey Porrello and Project ALS
Jimmy Kimmel on Friday is hosting a comedy show to support ALS research, as his godson Joey Porrello is currently battling the disease.
‘Join me & my pals Friday night in Vegas to support my godson Joey & everyone battling ALS,’ the ABC late night host, 55, said in an Instagram post.
The Brooklyn-born star, who hosted the Oscars earlier this year, tagged his comedic collaborators in the show, including his ex Sarah Silverman, Jeffrey Ross, Patton Oswalt, Nick Kroll and Mark Rober, as well as his Sin Coty-based venue, Jimmy Kimmel’s Comedy Club.
Porrello, 29, earlier this month spoke with Las Vegas outlet KTNV about living with Lou Gehrig’s disease, a year after he was diagnosed with the ailment.
‘My life is perfect in every way,’ Porrello told the station. ‘I feel tremendously fortunate.’

The upbeat godson of the talk show host said that his biggest obstacles in living with ALS is the way it’s hampered his capacity to communicate.
‘Losing my voice, my ability to interact with other people and to be able express my personality,’ Porrello, who is father to children Ottilie, three, and Wally, 10 months, told the station.
Alli told the outlet that she and her husband picked up on the potential problems when he started having issues with his wrist and mobility.
‘He fell even, one time, and I think that is when I was like, this is really serious – because it’s not just your hand, it’s your whole body that’s not communicating,’ she told the outlet.
The Porrellos credited Kimmel for assisting them in locating a doctor and getting them in touch with Project ALS, the organization focused on seeking treatments and a cure for the condition.
Kimmel is linked to Joey through his longtime friendship with his Joey’s father Tommy.
