MasterChef UK fans were left ‘gutted’ on Friday night as contestant Jack Wilkinson was eliminated in the nail-biting semi-finals.

The journalist had joined his fellow contestants as they battled it out for a place in the final, with the aspiring chefs tasked with creating a ‘theatrical and fantastical’ dish that ‘pushes the boundaries’.

With the competition extremely strong, judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace opted to send Jack home after he disappointed with his sweet bone marrow and bread dish.

Jack’s elimination at the final, hurdle means that Terri, Chariya, Anurag and Omar are the 2023 finalists and will face each other once more in a bid to become this year’s MasterChef champion.

After the result was announced, fans rushed to Twitter to share their reactions to Jack’s exit, with one remarking they were ‘rooting for him’ while others agreed it was the right decision.

‘Oh no! So disappointed that Jack didn’t make it to the final four but these have to be the most likeable bunch ever. I wouldn’t mind any of them winning’ commented one viewer.

While another shared: ‘Right decision – Jack fell just a little short of the other four in this round. He’s a hell of a cook, still.’

‘Oh no, Jack was my favourite, so sorry to see him leave’ tweeted a third upset watcher,

‘Waah, Jack Right choice, but I’m so sorry to see him go. He can cook dinner for me anytime’ tweeted a fourth.

Another person simply put: ‘gutted’ after hearing the sad result.

With another adding: ‘No surprise that Jack left, he didn’t hit the brief. Such a shame to see him go though, I was rooting for him.’

The semi-finalists certainly showcased their creativity during the episode, with Jack creating a bone marrow and bread dish consisting of crème brûlée and a chocolate crumb served with carbonated fruits.

However, his dish fell short as the judges felt that his crème brûlée hadn’t cooked properly and was on the verge of curdling while they didn’t understand the addition of the fruits to the meal.

‘I have such admiration for both of them and for the legacy they have built with the show, so to be able to part of that – even if it had been just for 15 minutes (which luckily it wasn’t) – was an honour I won’t ever take for granted.’

Meanwhile, Assistant Management Accountant Terri, 30, originally from Northern Ireland said: ‘Cooking for John and Gregg is terrifying but amazing all at the same time. They have the best job in the world! They are really supportive, funny and, most of all, honest. In the kitchen I’m a perfectionist, so I was probably harder on myself than the judges ever were.’

She added: ‘Finding out I’m through to the Finals feels like I’m having an out of body experience! I’m not sure it will ever sink in that I’m a MasterChef Finalist. Being a fan of the show, I remember all of the Finalists through the years and to think that I have joined that list of amazing cooks is unreal.’
