‘It’s my cathedral!’ Mindy Kaling looks pretty in purple as she lists her house rules: take off your shoes, watch TV on low volume and bus your own dishes
Mindy Kaling is an actress, writer, single mom, style icon and lover of design. She’s also the cover girl for Better Homes and Gardens’ annual Outdoor Entertaining Issue.
The Mindy Project alum, 43, looked drop dead gorgeous in the accompanying photos.
The mom of Katherine, five, and Spencer, two, wore a floral dress in shades of pink on a white background. The dress featured puffy three-quarter-length sleeves and a v-neckline.
The hemline of the skirt fell to mid-thigh as she held a tray of drinks in chic copper cups.
In the second look, The Office alum wore a lavender and pink color block knit dress with long sleeves and a v-neck.

The body of the dress was lavender on one side and pink on the other, with the opposite color on each sleeve.
Buttons ran down the length of the front of the dress as Mindy held a big, beautiful bouquet of flowers.
The actress’ lush, thick, raven hair was parted on the side and styled in long, loose waves.
‘My job is so social,’ she told the magazine. ‘I work at a place where there’s 125 people, and I get to laugh and be with them all day.
‘I get to go from the Universal lot to the Warner Brothers lot, or travel to India for work, and then I come back to my home which is a quiet cathedral for introspection.’
Of course, with two kids under five, quiet is a relative term and she has a set of rules for a happy home.
The first rule is: ‘Shoes off. That won’t be surprising because I’m Indian.’
The second rule is relatable: ‘TV volume should not drown out conversation. Octonauts and Peppa Pig can start to sound a little oppressive. Adults and kids need to be able to coexist, and I can’t think if the kids’ TV is too loud,’ she said.

Last up: And her final rule is: ‘Take your dish from the table to the sink’
New gig: On Wednesday Mindy was revealed as the new celebrity collaborator with Andie Swim
And her final rule is: ‘Take your dish from the table to the sink. You don’t even need to rinse it, just put it in the sink. No one would ever be able to get anything done if we were always picking up after people.’
When it comes to the gatherings she hosts for friends and family, the Never Have I Ever creator does have one pet peeve: cut flowers as a host gift.
‘This isn’t a rule so much as just a comment. Cut flowers stress me out when someone gives them to me because I don’t know how to arrange them, and then I have to leave my party to go pretend I’m a florist.
‘I don’t have a rule about it, but I’d prefer a jam, or a Christmas ornament,’ she explained.
