Phillip Schofield breaks his social media silence after quitting

Phillip Schofield has returned to social media after seemingly ‘quitting’ amid his ongoing feud with his This Morning co-host Holly Willoughby.

The TV presenter, 61, was notably absent from The Prince’s Trust Awards on Tuesday, instead choosing to share photos from the London Wine Fair, hosted at Kensington Olympia, a stone’s throw from Television Centre where This Morning is filmed.

Phillip has been noticeably quiet on his social media over the last week in an attempt to apparently ‘tough it out’ by putting on a united front with Holly.

However hours after reports of his silence emerged, Phillip returned with two smiling pictures from the wine event, where he appeared to be filming a project.

Phillip told his followers that he was talking ‘all things sustainable wine’ with a company called When In Rome at the event.

Phillip continued to put on a defiant display as he flashed a beaming smiles in the photographs shared to his Instagram Stories on Tuesday afternoon.

Around the same time, Holly, 42, was seen sharing a supportive hug with Kate Garraway at the The Prince’s Trust Awards, but Phillip was nowhere to be seen.

According to his website: ‘Outside of work, Phillip is an Ambassador for the charity The Prince’s Trust, dedicating time to further the work of supporting vulnerable young people in the UK.’

Holly was all smiles as she posed for upbeat snaps for the star-studded event at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London.

But her co-host and longtime friend Phillip – who is an ambassador for The Prince’s Trust – was nowhere to be seen amid their reported ‘feud’.

Despite the drama, Holly appeared unfazed as she smiled and posed for stunning photographs on the red carpet solo.

She then stopped to share a supportive embrace with her ITV co-star Kate, 56, who flashed a warm smile as tightly wrapped her arms around Holly.

It was previously reported that Phillip had quit social media after This Morning suffered a ratings plunge amid his feud with Holly.

The hosting duo returned to the show on Monday after Phil released an extraordinary statement trying to shut down speculation, but they made no reference to their ongoing row being headline news.

He has even turned off comments on his recent posts to avoid being quizzed about the swirling rumours of tensions between himself and Holly.

Phil’s last upload was on May 7 where he shared a video during a trip to Paris.

ITV are said to be crisis talks, while Holly and Phil failed to address their fallout for a second day on air.

Figures revealed Monday’s episode had an average of 726,720 people watching compared to 894,000 on the same day last week. Peak viewership was also significantly down at 914,000 compared to 1.058million on May 8.

Viewers watching today’s episode described the atmosphere as ‘awkward’, with one tweeting: ‘I haven’t watched the show more months thought I’d watch today’s but its clear the partnership is strained.’

Insiders have described Phil as ‘increasingly withdrawn’ on set, with one telling The Mirror: ‘He seems down and spends a lot of time in his dressing room. We’re worried about him.’

Meanwhile, Holly was in a reflective mood in her latest Monday newsletter for subscribers of her wellbeing brand Wylde Moon, where she revealed she had been receiving advice from a friend.

‘The older I get, the more I appreciate how daunting the concept of time passing can be,’ she mused. ‘I can always remember my nan saying things like ‘wait ’til you get to my age…then it really starts flying by’– and I now I really get it.

‘If this resonates with you, I wanted to share some advice one of my friends gave me when we were talking about this exact thing.

‘She told me that instead of worrying how quickly it’s going, we should look at things differently and appreciate that with every moment (big or small) that passes, we’re creating a future filled with joy, love, and endless possibility.’

Senior figures at ITV called a crisis meeting on Monday following a wave of negative social media feedback about the show.

After seeing the reaction on Twitter, with viewers panning both Holly and Phillip, ITV bosses are pondering what to do next.

One source told the Daily Mail: ‘Social media is used as a barometer to see what the public think. Those in charge were left no under no illusion that it was a total disaster.

‘It was painful for the This Morning team to work on and it was just as painful for them to watch.

‘There was a meeting afterwards to discuss how it went that went on for some time. To be honest, everyone was just so relieved to get it over with, but even if the show does continue to go on for some time, it will continue to be a massive headache.’

Sources close to the pair insist the programme will continue to run smoothly, despite the feuding behind the scenes.

Bosses from the broadcaster were allegedly furious after Phil broke his silence with a shock statement on Thursday night about the fall out with his co-host of 14 years admitting ‘the last few weeks haven’t been easy for us’.

Despite this, Phil believes he can weather the ongoing storm but even those close to him have said it is down to whether the audience believes the pair still have on-screen chemistry.

Sources at the broadcaster described the situation as a ‘quandary’ for its bosses because both of the former friends were determined to get their own way.

Phil has consulted lawyers over the situation, which has been spiralling out of control for months.
