He’s known for his sleek raven locks, clean-shaven look and impeccable style. 

And Benedict Cumberbatch looked drastically different from his usual look as he sported mop of curly ginger hair, a beard and glasses on the set of new Netflix thriller Eric.

The actor, 46, who will take on the leading role of puppeteer Vincent Anderson, certainly embraced the role as he transformed into character while filming in New York’s Central Park on Thursday. 

As well as rocked a different hairstyle and additional facial hair, Benedict cut a casual figure in a tan shearling jacket, which was teamed with a forest green short and white T-shirt. 

His look was finished off with dark grey jeans and retro Nike trainers.

The six part series, titled Eric, follows Vincent as he searches for his son Edgar after he goes missing on his way to school. 

Growing desperate, the puppeteer becomes distressed and believes that if he gets his brings his son’s drawing of Eric the monster to life and gets him on TV, that Edgar will find his way home. 

As Vincent’s progressively destructive behaviour alienates his family, his work colleagues, and the detectives trying to help him, it’s Eric, a delusion of necessity, who becomes his only ally in his pursuit. 

Set in 1980s in New York City, filming for the six-part series kicked off last month in Budapest, Hungary, which will double as the US city. 

Netflix shared the official synopsis to Twitter in November 2021, writing: ‘From writer Abi Morgan, this tense thriller tracks what happens when a young boy goes missing in 1980s Manhattan. 

‘His father, Vincent, a puppeteer on America’s leading kids’ TV show, finds solace through his friendship with Eric, the monster that lives under his son’s bed.’

In an interview with Deadline, writer Abi Morgan explained: ‘Eric is a dark and crazy journey into the heart of 1980’s New York, and the good bad and ugly world of Vincent. 

‘The chance to work with Benedict and the creative team at Sister and Netflix is irresistible.

‘With Lucy Forbes at the directorial helm, I feel fortunate to be working at a time of such great creativity in our industry. Fingers crossed Eric will be a welcome addition.’ 

Also in the cast is Gaby Hoffmann (as Cassie Anderson), McKinley Belcher III (as Detective Michael Ledroit), Dan Fogler (as Lennie Wilson), Clarke Peters (as George Lovett), Ivan Morris Howe (as Edgar Anderson) and Phoebe Nicholls as Anne Anderson.

David Denman will play Matteo Cripp, Bamar Kane as Yuusuf Egbe, Adepero Odyue as Cecile Rochelle, Alexis Molnar as Rata and Roberta Colindrez as Ronnie. 

Although there is no official release date of as yet, it is reportedly set to air on the streaming service later this year.  

It will be a six-part limited series of 60-minute episodes.
