Hilary Duff admits she’s inspired by Gwyneth Paltrow and ‘starves’ off her hunger with coffee

Hilary Duff admitted that she looks to Gwyneth Paltrow for inspiration when it comes staying slim.

The Disney Channel alum, 35, revealed on the Lipstick on the Rim podcast this week that she often skips breakfast in order to keep her hunger at bay.

‘Sometimes I try to — you know, Gwyneth’s in trouble for saying this — but sometimes I try to just drink coffee in the morning and starve off my hunger,’ she told host Molly Sims.

Earlier this year, Paltrow, 50, was accused of promoting ‘starvation’ after sharing that she relies on a diet of mostly bone broth and vegetables along with intermittent fasting.

Duff explained that she tries to avoid kicking her day off with a meal because she often wakes up ‘really hungry.’

But she will sometimes bend the rules while packing school lunches for her three children.

‘If we’re being honest, yeah, I eat a chicken nugget in the morning while I’m packing lunches and there’s one left over. Pop it down the hatch!’ Duff said.

The Raise Your Voice actress insisted that she does consume ‘lots of calories’ throughout the day.

She leans towards ‘super clean,’ nutrient dense foods and even incorporates plant-based options into her menu.

Right now, Duff is ‘obsessed’ with cauliflower rounds which she will often top with either avocado or vegan sausage and overnight oats are a staple in her fridge.

Duff is also an avid fitness enthusiast, who hits the gym four to five times a week.  

She told Sims that her personal trainer has her do high-intensity interval training, along with weight lifting.

The mother-of-three gave her fans an up-close look at her enviably toned figure while gracing the January 2023 cover of Women’s Health Australia.

She shared more details about her exercise regimen as well as how ‘macro counting’ has kept her in shape while still allowing her to enjoy the foods she loves.

Duff can still eat things like ‘chocolate and bread’ as long as she keeps track of the amount of protein, carbohydrates, and fats she is consuming daily.

Her menu is curated weekly by celebrity nutrition coach Erik Young, who she credits to helping her cut out ‘snacking.’

She’s also formed a better relationship with food. 

Duff is not afraid of lifting heavy in the gym and she’s since ditched cardio workouts because she always felt as though they left her feeling ‘tired and hungry.’

Along with keeping her in incredible shape, the Cinderella Story star said that her healthy lifestyle has ‘kept her in a good mindset.’

Though Duff has been praised on social media in recent years for her approach to diet and exercise, Paltrow faced online wrath after sharing her version with The Art of Being Well podcast in March.

During the interview, Dr. Will Cole – the author of Intuitive Fasting who practices alternative medicine – asked the Academy Award-winner to share what her current ‘wellness routine’ consists of.

Paltrow’s answer was snipped into a 40-second clip which was then uploaded to the podcast network’s own TikTok account.

In it, the actress – who was attached to an IV throughout the conversation – says: ‘I eat dinner early in the evening. I do a nice intermittent fast.

‘I usually eat something about 12 and in the morning I have things that won’t spike my blood sugar so I have coffee.

‘But I really like soup for lunch. I have bone broth for lunch a lot of the days. Try to do one hour of movement, so I’ll either take a walk or I’ll do Pilates or I’ll do my Tracy Anderson.

‘And then I dry brush and I get in the sauna. So I do my infrared sauna for 30 minutes and then for dinner I try to eat according to paleo – so lots of vegetables.’

Paltrow concluded: ‘It’s really important for me to support my detox.’
