Jeanne du Barry official trailer: Johnny Depp returns to the big screen after three-year hiatus

The official trailer of upcoming movie Jeanne du Barry dropped earlier this week.

In the French biographical film, Johnny Depp, 59, makes his grand return to the big screen and plays the role of King Louis XV — starring alongside actress and director Maïwenn, 46.

In the preview, the Golden Globe winner appears as the silver-haired monarch as he takes on a royal mistress — who the flick is named after.

This movie will mark his comeback and be his first project in three years since his victory in the highly-publicized defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard, 36.

Ahead of the release, however, Maïwenn was accused by a journalist for allegedly ‘spitting in his face’ and is now being sued for the reported assault.

The video opens with Jeanne Vaubernier — played by Maïwenn Le Besco — as she charms a crowd of guests at a party.

Later, she is seen making an impressive entrance at Versailles after narration reveals her spouse intended to present her to the king — promo pictures of whom were released earlier this year.

After being instructed not to look at the king directly, Jeanne boldly does so knowing it is an ‘invitation to intimacy’.

Despite understanding she will subsequently receive disfavor from the court, she does not listen and King Louis XV becomes wholly infatuated with her.

The rest of the trailer shows all those in the king’s inner circle — including his royal advisors and his daughters — expressing their disapproval.

Disregarding the advice, he continues the love affair until passion quickly becomes scandal.

‘You are discovering the dark side of the king,’ Jeanne is later informed at the climax of the trailer.

The final shot shows her running up a flight of stairs that seemingly leads to nowhere as a voice says (translated from French): ‘You are in grave danger, madame.’
